Last December, I was out for lunch with friends when I got a message from William. I hadn’t seen him since we were in Paris together for photography school, but that didn’t matter. We were old friends and I was happy to hear from him. And this message brought with it wonderful news — He was getting married and was wondering if I was free in May. I answered something to the effect of “yes I’m free … and I should have known that you would think up the most awesome wedding possible!”. The plans were filled with music, and dancing, and relaxed fun in the Texas country side. I was in — and I was honoured that they wanted me to shoot this epic celebration.
Now, the thing you need to know about William is that he’s a guy who will (quite literally) let you crash on his couch, feed you delicious food, fill your iPod with amazing music, will wake up at 5 am to carry heavy bags down 5 giant flights of stairs, and make sure you get in a cab so you don’t miss your flight. That’s a true story of my last night in Paris that I tell only to demonstrate how solid he is to the core. And nothing made me happier than to finally meet Rachel and see that she was just as solid. A true match in every way. A bride who swam in a river until 2 hours before her wedding ceremony. Who had her niece style her hair. Who had her beautiful bouquet made by caring friends.
So this is the story of Rachel and William and their Texas sized wedding celebration. From Friday night square dancing to snow cones to Fleetwood Mac by the campfire – it was a celebration of love and family and friends. I’m so happy I was there to capture the fun. Thanks to Rachel, William and to all their family and friends for welcoming me — and especially to Laura for letting me crash in her hotel room and for being my car-pool buddy.
