Karla and Braeden – August 2013 – New Liskeard, Ontario

My first phone call with Karla was exactly four days before her mid-August wedding. It was a Tuesday night and I had received a frantic text from her maid-of-honour only hours before. A last minute change in plans meant that she was looking for a photographer. As luck would have it, her wedding fell on my one free weekend last August. It was fate, I think. Over a series of phone calls and emails, I was quickly swept up in Karla’s warm kindness and excitement. Once I got to New Liskeard (which is about 500 kms north of Toronto), I also got swept up in the love that she and Braeden share, and the loving family and friendships that surrounds them. There were so many tears of joy and hugs.  Theirs was a beautiful northern wedding –  the borrowed antlers in the centre pieces perfectly paired with pale pink roses, reclaimed books, and antique jars.

I am so happy I got to be a part of the kindness and joy that filled this very special day. And what can I say? I have a soft spot for a groom who ferries his new bride around in the back of his pick-up truck (and for a bride who willingly jumps in!).
